BRINGING IN FILL (ROUND TWO)

September 8-19, 2008

9/8/08 - The first step in bringing the earth to the correct elevation required filling the area on the inside and outside of the north entry garage door so we could get the tractor inside the building.  The sandy gravel had to be compacted after the addition of every 4-6 inches of gravel.  Also, each side of the frost walls had to be filled to the same depth to ensure even pressure on both sides of the walls.

Gene Knox dumps a bucket of fill as Bob Stickney

gets ready to spread and compact it

What a great boost it was to have John Blais come to help after he got out of work!
By the end of the day, the ramp into the building was finished.
9/9/08 - In a drizzly rain, we had time to get the first layer of dirt over the footers on the inside and outside of the building before the drizzle became a downpour.

9/10/08 - It was a long day, but we accomplished a lot today!

8:15 a.m.
3:15 p.m.
5:00 p.m.
6:30 p.m.
6:45 .pm.- Done for the day.

9/11/08 - In the event that we heat the building with radiant heat in the concrete floor, two inch thick insulation was placed around the inside perimeter of the building.
Gene Knox and Sam Stickney work on placing the insulation.
Filling, spreading, and compacting continue.
9/12/08 - Henry Zinck volunteered his time and the use of his small excavator to dig the hole for the power pole.  Henry is also the first person to donate to our final fundraising drive for the groomer garage.  Many thanks Henry for your generous donation and for getting the ball rolling!

9:30 a.m. - Phil Zinck arrives with the

excavator on his car hauler.

Thanks for your help, Phil!

Henry Zinck begins digging the

hole for the power pole

Henry very quickly and efficiently got the hole dug.  Many thanks, Henry!
