FUNDRAISING

Five years ago, the Rumford Polar Bears Snowmobile Club began raising money to build a groomer garage.  This summer, we began construction with $36,500 in the bank, and a budget of $50,000 to complete the building.  By the end of November, 2008, we expect to have the metal siding applied and the two overhead garage doors installed.  (Click here to see photos of the construction progress.) This will complete the exterior of the building and make it usable for this winter.

We still need to install wiring and lighting, insulate and cover the interior walls and ceiling, choose a heating system, and pour the concrete floor. So far, we are right on budget, thanks to the generous support from area businesses and more than a thousand hours of volunteer labor by club members.

However, in order to complete the interior of the building, without taking on debt, we need to raise additional funds.  We'll soon be launching a fundraising drive so we can complete construction.

To help us raise money, Gil Bolduc, a talented wood craftsman, has donated a beautiful handcrafted, live-edge, cherry burl bowl for us to raffle.  We raised $181 from this raffle.  The winner of the bowl was Ron E. Russell.

We are also selling snowmobile sweatshirts and pewter snowmobile pins, and we have an on-going returnable bottle drive called Bottles to Build. You can help by saving your returnable bottles. You can turn them in at Ralph's Store or the Bottle Depot on Waldo Street and they'll give us six cents per bottle when you tell them it's for the Rumford Polar Bears Snowmobile Club. Or you can drop your bottles into the trailer at Bob and Louise Stickney's house at the corner of Franklin Street and Porter Avenue, or call them at 364-3848 and they'll come pick them up.
